Heel Switch System

The team at Nexus developed the Heel Switch System to solve the speed discrepancy problems experienced when the speed and depth transducers need to be installed away from the centre line. These variances are common on multihulls, modern day short-handed yachts and older classic keel style designs. The Heel Switch System consists of two small heel boxes – one for port and one for starboard – into which the two pairs of transducers are wired. These boxes process the raw speed, water temperature and depth data into the Nexus protocol, automatically selecting the correct box depending on which tack/gybe the yacht is on. The switching between the port and starboard boxes is done automatically depending on the heel of the boat, which is provided by a HPC Compass. If a compass isn’t fitted, the switching will be made on the apprent wind angle. Specifications The Heel Switch System includes two heel switch boxes (one port and one starboard) and one 0.4m inter-connection cable.
